I love to eat at the bar, especially if it's just me or me plus one.

What's your take? Should the bar just be for drinks, should there be some section of the bar just for drinks, or is this just another fight that has no winner?

about this blog

Many of these long-lived wonders have been restored to their original appearance with textbook accuracy. You can stop at just about any point along this winding road and find a house with historic past worthy of conversation.

Unless, of course, you stop in front of my house.

Now, if you're working on some kind of obscure doctoral thesis on classic 1960s Cape design, you might find a wealth of worthwhile information within my four walls. The use of knotty pine in just about any vertical application, say, or the evolution of speckles in vinyl tile flooring - 1965 through 1967. Otherwise, the 1,300-sq.-ft. structure that I call home is just another shingled Cape. It would fit comfortably in many aging suburban developments throughout the Northeast, but, instead, it's been plopped down in the middle of the country's longest continuous registered historic district.

Volcanic gas crimps Crater Rim Drive

HILO » Dangerously high levels of sulfur dioxide gas in a small but popular area of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park have officials warning visitors to stay in their cars with their air conditioner on re-circulation and to just drive through that area.

The main area affected is a 5-mile stretch of Crater Rim Drive on the downwind, south side of Kilauea caldera. That means no stopping at a popular parking area at the beginning of a short path to Halemaumau Crater overlook.

"Area closed due to dangerous volcanic gas. Stay in your car!" yellow-and-black warning signs say.

The greatest danger is to babies and children, pregnant women and people with asthma or heart conditions, said spokeswoman Mardie Lane.

Deal signed for Perkins plant

After four months of deliberation, Delphi Corp. has chosen a potential buyer.

Delphi Corp. entered into a $44.2 million asset sale and purchase agreement Wednesday with Cleveland-based Resilience Capital Partners for the sale of its wheel bearings business.

There are a few more hurdles to clear before closing the sale with Resilience Capital Partners.

Delphi Corp. filed a motion at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York to request a bidding procedures hearing on Jan. 25. The bidding procedures hearing will allow other businesses interested in acquiring the plant a chance to outbid Resilience Capital Partners. If no other company bids on the property, a final sale hearing will be set sometime in the first quarter.
